It was back to work today, and so back to the afternoon patch visits, which are not as productive on the whole as my longer morning walks. The walk into work, was frosty and cool, nothing much was noted, apart from two LESSER BLACK BACKED GULLS that flew from one of the paddocks.

Two hours from 14:00hrs were spent out this afternoon, and it proved to be a barren visit, not surprising given the cool, cloudy conditions. None of the already arrived spring migrants were noted, not even the reliable Chiffchaff sang! Maybe I should have visited the lakes and Scrubby Woods today, but instead had a wander around the Tree Nursery, Migrant Alley, the Greenhouse Grounds and its associated copse, its these places that i'm most likely to turn up a migrant species, just not today!

Birds I did see were the regulars, but even these were few, the KESTREL pair remain together, hunting around the Greenhouses and returning to pair bond at the nest box, a few GREEN WOODPECKERS were about, and nest building was observed by a pair of PIED WAGTAILS in the Greenhouse Grounds. WREN, ROBIN, DUNNOCK, BLACKBIRD, SONGTHRUSH, GREENFINCH, CHAFFINCH, GOLDFINCH, HOUSE SPARROW, were all busy doing the same.

I ended up taking photo's of the Wrens at the Greenhouse Grounds, and later,as a last resort BLUE TITS from my garden, at least the sun had re-appeared by then...........things surely will pick up ?

A nice selection of shots Warren despite there being not a lot about. It won't be long now until they arrive for you in their floods.

A Pied Wagtail!!! Don't have those often up close. Nice shot. I'm finding some of these birds are hard to get up close unless I just stand in one spot for a loooong time. This is definitely an exciting time of year because you don't know what will fly your way.

Another nice set of pics Warren, things will be a bit slow with this north wind and dodgy cool weather, hopefully it will change soon as you say :-)

Another very nice Wren photo Warren :-) It was dead here too yesterday, barely any birdsong even, not surprising though as it seemed more like November! The only two photo opportunities were a Chiffchaff which I had nicely lined up when a woman appeared with two dogs :-( and later another Chiffchaff also nicely positioned when another woman with two more dogs appeared, typical!!...the only people I saw in a two hour visit and it had to be at those times :-(

Lovely garden bird photos too :-)

Great series of pictures and subjects!
I envy your Wren and your Goldfinch, still very elusive for me!
Jolly well done! :)
