HOUSE MARTINS were seen passing over right from the outset of my walk, scores of birds, all moving SW, passed through for most of the morning, some hanging around briefly to feed over the sheep pasture at Migrant Alley where a few MEADOW PIPITS and PIED WAGTAILS mixed with them.
A LITTLE OWL was seen in the old shack at the Ashes Lane Field as I walked over to the Scrubby Woods and lake area, the wind was blowing hard by now and trying to pick up bird calls was not easy, just GOLDCREST and BULLFINCH were picked out, plus the KINGFISHER which called at the ornamental lake. Nothing else but the usual MUTE SWAN, COOT, MALLARD and MOORHEN were on the water, but as the sun was out and the light was good, I enjoyed taking a few photo's of the bathing Swans..
I eventually made my way back to my sky watching seat at Migrant Alley, where I watched the House Martins again, I also found a single SWALLOW in amongst one flock of Martins. The SPARROWHAWK didn't take long to show itself as it flew past low and slow, then as it warmed up, 4 BUZZARDS were seen soaring together directly above me. The KESTREL pair sat together on a fence rail, preening and enjoying the sunshine, while overhead SKYLARKS called as they flew S in two's and three's, a large flock of HERRING and BLACK HEADED GULLS were disturbed from a field to the East of my patch, they all passed my position and as I watched them a skein of 5 GREYLAG GEESE (57) flew over, at least I got something for the months list out of the visit today, plus some nice Mute Swan shots. :-)
