Just a very quick walk to the lake was had this afternoon, the continuous rain was just easing off as I left, but it was hardly light enough to see, especially as I walked through the Wet woods, where peering through the semi darkness two Pairs of MALARD could be seen on the deepening pools. Above, in the twiggy branches a GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER called, and a few SISKINS were seen high in an Alder, but not much else was about.

I squelched my way over to the lakes, and was pleased that the mornings torrential rain had deterred the college trainees from turning up today, ...... every cloud.....! Alas there was still little to be seen on the water, just 4 pairs of Mallard and one pair of MOORHEN, the nearby gas cannon was still blasting its triple volley every 40mins, so that could well prevent any wildfowl turning up here, it was good to see the KINGFISHER again for the third day in a row though.

I didn't stay long, there was obviously little about in the terrible, dusk like conditions, I noted LESSER REDPOLL going over, and BULFINCH calling before heading off home...............what a poor week :-(

No rain is forecast for tomorrow, so things should look up a bit for the patch walk, who knows it may even be bright enough to take my camera out.......now where did I put it ? !

You lost your camera ;-) Hummmm..... We have a bullfinch over here too and I guess I will try to run after it... It is so rare ;-)

Bullfinch's are not that common here anymore Chris, I am lucky to have 4 or 5 pairs breedng on my patch.

I've seen just one pair of Bullfinches in 20 years here. The gas guns alongside the reserve quite often have swans feeding close to them as they go off, and they just ignore them.
I'm taking your comments about the weather with a pinch of salt, remember what happens in the summer!

Derek, I might just have to accidentally knock over the gas cannon :-)

.....As for the weather, well I just dont like extremes, be they Hot, cold, wet or windy, or foggy, or snowy......or ..well anything really :-)

and people, and dogs, and cars, and going to work and gas guns - trouble is, all these things exist in the real world.

Derek, They can stay in the real world too! No room for them in mine :-)

Hi Warren, I, like you, am not enjoying this weather at all, I would much rather it a lot colder but dryer. We were hoping to get out tomorrow too, so I might have to google the local weather now, and see if there will be a break in the rain. I am supposed to be taking my son to see the Hadlow Peregrines soon, he keeps asking me "when when"?!

Hi Warren
I hope tomorrow is a much better day for you, and the camera gets a airing. This weather is terrible, your right.
It is always nice to see a Kingfisher.
Have a good weekend Warren.
