Sunday 9 November 2014

It started cloudy this morning, with a brief spell of sunshine, but my patch visit was made under a mostly cloudy sky. Frustratingly, as I got home, the sun returned, turning the afternoon bright and warm  :-)

I headed straight for the lakes first thing, not finding much on the way, apart from a flyover YELLOWHAMMER, most birds were not active even at 07:00hrs.

At the lakes I heard the KINGFISHER again, then got brief views of it as it flew low across the ornamental lake, but there were no surprises on the water today, just a few MALLARDS, MOORHENS and the MUTE SWAN family.

In the Scrubby Woods, BULLFINCH, COAL TIT, NUTHATCH and GOLDCREST were seen and heard, plus GREEN and GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKERS called, SONGTHRUSHES and BLACKBIRDS are few and I still haven't recorded Mistlethrush yet this month!

I headed off to have a look around the Ashes lane Field, but there are still few birds to be found here, a flock of 6 MEADOW PIPITS and 2 SKYLARKS being the best find. As I walked the Pub Field, a BUZZARD flew low over, heading for the Wet Woods and the female KESTREL was sitting on the boundary fence line where a flock of 8 LONG TAILED TITS were making their way.

I arrived at Migrant Alley noting little but the Corvids and WOODPIGEONS out on the paddocks and sheep pasture, but as I reached my sky watching seat I saw a steady stream of BLACK HEADED GULLS arrive, settling on a paddock to feed, but they didn't stay long before being flushed off by a dog walker.

An hour at my seat, watching the sky, wasn't very productive today, a group of 8 REDWING were the highlight, other than that it was HERRING GULLS and Corvids, oh, and the ever present SPARROWHAWK pair!

The Sparrowhawk pair gave my garden a rest today though, so in the sunshine I was able to get a couple of images, only the regulars, but I almost got an image of the TREECREEPER that visited again!

ROBIN

BLUE TIT

I cant not take a Nuthatch photo! There are two pairs coming in, and they always give a nice pose!

Lovely Nuthatch shots. Those colours really stand out well in the sunshine. A lucky man to have them in your garden.
