Wales Update

Since my last post the Wales bird list has moved on to 95 and new species are becoming hard to find. Some good species were picked up after visiting a few nature reserves, like, Llangorse, Ynys Hir, Dinas, the riverside at Hay on Wye and another couple of Gilfach visits, as well as a couple of failed dragonfly visits to the upland peat bogs.

Difficult to find species like WATER RAIL, REDSHANK, GREAT BLACK BACKED GULL, LITTLE EGRET, OYSTERCATCHER, OSPREY, PEREGRINE, MARSH TIT, COMMON SANDPIPER and CETTIS WARBLER, (the latter find was a local rarity for Llangorse lakes!) have pushed the list to within 5 species of our target of 100.

A visit to Aberystwith either tomorrow or Monday, to try to find the Choughs and maybe a couple of sea birds will push our list tantalisingly near to our target if we are successful  :-)

Sounds like a great trip so far.
If you can't find chough at Aber try Tywyn and Bird Rock a few miles NE of there, if blowy should be some Manxies offshore.

cheers

Good bird list you a clocking p for your wales list. I don't know where you are based, but I was wondering if you have ever been to Elegug Stacks,Pembrokeshire. I know that Choughs have been seen there, but also the stacks just over the cliff top they are normally teeming with Guillemots and Razorbills. While watching the Guillemots at one time I actually saw a Bridled one amongst them. Anyway good hunting Warren.
Love your pictures,keep them coming.

Hello Ken,
We are based around the Elan Valley, we haven't gone as far out as Pembrokeshire, so are missing a few sea birds off our list, however we did get Gannet, plus a few good views of a pair of Choughs !
