Another fine warm and sunny day, temperatures reached almost 80 degrees, all very nice!

I spent the first 2 hours of  my patch visit today sky watching from my seat over looking Migrant Alley, the sky was clear and blue but for the most part it stayed empty. I did however see 3 gull species fly over, HERRING, BLACK HEADED and LESSER BLACK BACKED, plus a GREY HERON  went through. The local male KESTREL was seen up hunting, as well as the local BUZZARDS, but more exciting was watching the PEREGRINE (60) chase the WOODPIGEONS over the sheep pasture, a welcome addition to the May list.

Plenty of SWALLOWS zipped around, catching the abundant insect life that was around, plus the SWIFTS were seen higher up, still no House Martin for the month though.

A look through the Scrubby Woods for Odonata proved frustrating, as I saw a couple of Large Red Damsels, plus a lone Azure Damsel, the first this year, but none posed for a photo, nor did the Speckled Wood Butterfly, another first for the year. Oh well, there will be many more chances for photo's in the coming days and weeks!
