Another lovely late spring day, with sunny skies and a light Southerly wind.

My four hour patch visit yielded just the normal patch species early on, the LESSER WHITETHROAT was seen, but it didn't sing today as it fed around the Greenhouse Grounds, an indication that it may well of found a mate  :-) The COMMON WHITETHROAT pair were seen too, as well as another pair at the Ashes Lane Fields.

Over at the Wet Woods and scrubby Woods I found all the resident species, BLACKCAP and CHIFFCHAFF for the summer birds, plus NUTHATCH, TREECREEPER, GREAT SPOTTED and GREEN WOODPECKERS, COAL TIT, LONG TAILED TIT, JAY, STOCK DOVE, BULLFINCH, GOLDCREST, SONGTHRUSH and MISTLETHRUSH were the pick of the residents.

Nothing to see on the lakes apart from a few pairs of CANADA and GREYLAG GEESE and the sitting MUTE SWAN.

The highlight of the visit came from the flyover species seen during my sky watch at Migrant Alley, as is quite often the case, with SWIFT, SWALLOW and the first SAND MARTIN (54) of the month all seen up in the blue sky, better still was watching the first two HOBBIES (90,55) of the year as they flew low over the Greenhouse Grounds, brilliant little falcons. Their arrival here is just one day later than the 15 year median average.

This afternoon, the SISKIN pair were once again seen at the feeders, plus 3 Large Red Damselflies were around my mini pond, one gave me a brief chance of a photo  :-)
