Thanks to everyone for the kind messages over the recent days, they are very much appreciated  :-)

Jay
The walk into work and back were the only visits made to my patch today, where I noted that the HOUSE MARTIN passage continues, although down just a trickle now, and a few local SWALLOWS still remain over the sheep pasture at Migrant Alley. A CHIFFCHAFF calling from the college grounds was the only other summer bird species.

I spent some time watching the garden feeders this afternoon, the above JAY was visiting again, one of a pair that come in and take some peanuts, the bird above was ringed by a friend down the lane from me last year, so it is not one of the large influx that has occurred over the county this year.

Persistent attacks from the SPARROWHAWK kept the numbers of birds visiting to a minimum, but I did tally 16 species, a couple of which - the COAL TIT and GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER have just started coming back into the garden after their usual summer break  :-)

The first full patch walk of the month will take place tomorrow morning, should be an Autumnal affair, where hopefully my first winter thrush will turn up :-)

Lovely Jay shot Warren.
Very sorry to read about your bereavement, only just caught up with the post.

I'm glad to see that you are starting to get back out there Warren. Nature and the outdoors is, in my opinion, the greatest healer!

That looks like a very greedy Jay :-) I assume it was going to bury them for later like they do with acorns. You are so lucky to have them in the garden. I'm starting to think you don't need to stray from home for your birding.

Hope you have as good a weekend as possible.

Hi Songbird,
I only get Jays in Autumn / Winter, even then not every year.

If It wasn't for the sprawk, I'd do lots more garden bird watching :-)

Has to be said Warren....good to see your return to seek peace of mind.

The Jay appears to have a little more than a beak full.
