Today, the saddest of days for me was compounded by another of those dreadfully cold and wet days that May has produced more often than not this year.
Not being able to focus on much throughout today, I found myself sitting in the rain at my sky watching seat, reflecting on what I do and why I do it, - that is, spending so much time out in the field away from the world. I came up with the answer ''because it's what I love doing'' and that is how to spend your life - doing what you love doing, just as my dad did :-)

Warren ,
No consolation for losing your Dad , but I'm sure it would have been his hoped for way , quickly .
My thoughts , old and ill shouldn't go together , not these days .
My condolences .
I'm sorry to hear of your loss Warren. No words can describe how you are feeling but he will be happy knowing you are doing something you are happy with.
So very sorry Warren. Although it was expected it makes it no easier to bear. I shall continue to keep you in my thoughts. Sending warm and comforting hugs.
Warren, I'm so sorry for your loss. I have found that when we bird, we also reflect on our lives. I'm not a religious or churchy person, but birding is spiritual. Hang in there and my thoughts are with you and your family and friends.
Sorry to hear of your fathers passing Warren, something we have no training grounds for.
Think of all the good times to help you on your way through the grieving, your birds will also help you through this period too.
My Thoughts....Pete.
What dreadful news Warren and you have my deepest condolences and sympathies at what must be an awful time for you and your loved ones. After I lost my much loved grandfather it was being active out in the countryside which kept me going too and I actually started my blog in memory of him as he was very much an old countryman whom taught me so much about nature and wildlife.
My thoughts are with you and I hope that your love of observing and recording nature provides you with the solace you need in this difficult time. Best wishes.
Sincere condolences for your loss Warren.
I think we often take stock of our own lives at difficult times like this. It sounds like you have done the same and come to the conclusion that what you do is right for you. That's what matters. While you watch the sky, your chin is up.
Keep on doing it!
