The short visit wasn't without some interest though and the time spent at the lakes was rewarded with the sighting of 6 GOOSANDER, probably the six that were here at the end of December. The MUTE SWANS and a KINGFISHER were also of note.
I spent most of my time out waiting for the Goosander to swim near enough to my hidden position to enable a photo or two, but I think they new I was there and stayed at the far end of the Main lake, I got a record shot anyway. Whilst I waited in vain for a proper photo opportunity, I heard both LESSER REDPOLL and SISKIN going over, plus BULLFINCH and GOLDCREST calling from the Scrubby Woods.
Six Goosander, a very exciting visitor to my patch :-) |

Nice set of Goosander. I feel like that Mute Swan at the moment with weather!!
Marc,
I was going to write a caption something akin to that!
God i'm fed up with this wind and rain....:-(
is it just me, there are so few fieldfare around....ive visited three orchards and seen very few...
....and agreed...enough of this warm weather...wind and rain....rain and wind...i am truly fed up with it...
Nothing added for the year then, Warren. And i thought i was on a go slow ;-)
Warren ,
Goosander and Goldeneye , they always spot the camera .
The weather has even caused tomorrow's hedgelaying to be cancelled .
Graham,
Ive hardly had any Fieldfare here at all this year, mainly due to the lack of hedgerow fruit I suspect.
Normally numbers build up on the pasture as they all return north in late Feb.
Na nothing today dean, it will be diminishing returns for the rest of the month I think!
Greenie,
Cancelled hedge laying! Must be bad :-)
Always good to see Goosanders Warren. No sign of any at NH yet. No Bitterns either.
The visit....short and sweet, better than nothing and sour Warren.
Dramatic watching the 10 foot high waves over the promenade at Morecambe this morning, but like everyone else I'm truly sick of it.
Goosanders back again Warren that's great :-)
