Pittswood Birds

A 5 hour full walk of my patch, in less windy conditions than of late, and with variable cloud cover, yielded a good total 50 bird species. None of them were were unexpected, and none were new to the month, it's getting very difficult to add to the July list now.

Best of the bunch, (for my patch ) were the CORMORANT that flew over Migrant Alley, the SPOTTED FLYCATCHER in the College Grounds, a YELLOWHAMMER that was again seen in the Tall Hedgerow bordering the Greenhouse Complex, and the GREY HERON on the largest of the 3 Lakes.

Very little song was noted this morning, as expected at this time of year, but the odd BLACKCAP, CHIFFCHAFF, WHITETHROAT and SONGTHRUSH did have a go. A feeding flock of mixed Tits - GREAT, BLUE, COAL and LONG TAILED were seen in the Lakeside Scrub, with them were the tag along NUTHATCH family, but all went very quiet when the SPARROWHAWK cruised over, the only raptor seen today.

More noteworthy happenings were seen with the butterflies, they were everywhere today, 14 species were seen, and many were photographed, sorry they are mostly the same species as been posted over the last two days, but they won't be around for long :-) here they are anyway -
