Today was identical to yesterday, as far as the weather went, the strong wind was still blowing, and a few light showers blew through, but there was the odd sunny spell to be had.

Once again I headed for the shelter of the scrub and woods around the Lakes, and just like yesterday I ended chasing Butterflies, as the birding was so quiet. Saying that, I did see a GREY HERON on the largest lake, along with a few MALLARD and MOORHEN, those, and the mixed feeding flock of LONG TAILED TIT, GREAT TIT, BLUE TIT, COAL TIT, CHIFFCHAFF and NUTHATCH that went through the scrub.

The Butterflies again proved very frustrating to photograph in the strong wind, but a few individuals were captured, mostly the same as yesterday i'm afraid, apart from this Holly Blue.

Purple Hairstreak. Again there were plenty on the wing, but mostly out of reach

This Red Admiral wasn't as fresh as yesterday's

The Gatekeepes numbers keep increasing, good to see

and once again there were a few Comma's about

I put this photo in, as I stated on a previous post that I thought the female BULLFINCH that was visiting my garden feeders had become victim of the Sparrowhawk. As you can see she has not :-)

Last of all a contented looking fox, seen trotting through the Small Holding.
I'll be out early tomorrow morning for another full patch walk, and endeavour to increase the monthly bird list - if not the years one :-)

A lot of the butterflies are looking worn nowadays, always a bit sad to see...that holly blue looks great tho, and the gatekeeper sure has nice markings. Very nice to see the bullfinches are still together! :o) Another fox, how nice for you...I'm still jealous, ha. I've seen a couple in past years but never to photograph.

Difficult days for birding is about right Warren. Thank goodness for our unfeathered friends to brighten our blogs.

Still outdoing me with Holly Blue & Purp Hairstreak, Warren.

Hope you add to either bird list over the weekend.

I'm always impressed enough by the great butterfly photos you post, but getting photos of them on a windy day is downright amazing! I wonder why we don't see such a variety of species here? Maybe has something to do with being on an island?

Lovely flutter photos Warren! I'm still envious of the PH and a Holly Blue wouldn't come amiss.

Excellent news regarding the Bullfinch, so glad you updated us on that :)
