Thursday 4 November 2010

Another very mild day for November, but windy with it, and the walk into work was pleasant enough, made even more so by finding a GREY WAGTAIL (50) feeding by the manure heap at the College Stables.

For the entire time I was at work, the sun shone, albeit weakly, and it was very pleasant out, but as soon as I left work the cloud rolled in and it became grey and windy :-( Another 90 minute visit was squeezed in before dusk started to roll in, and again a visit to the Lakes was had, where both GREY HERON and CORMORANT were fishing, 12 MALLARD dabbled about, and 9 MOORHEN seemed to be feeding on seeds blown from the trees and had gathered at the center of the main lake. Virtually no small passerines were found, the wind was covering any calls, so tracking them down was hit and miss - and I missed!

I quickly made my way to the Pub Field maize stubbles, and the Tree Nursery, where I spent the rest of the time it was light. Not a great deal was on offer here, much the same as yesterday, PHEASANT, GOLDCREST, PIED WAGTAIL a few flyover HERRING GULLS and a KESTREL. However it was good to see a flock of 9 LINNET (51) fly around the tree nursery, and finally drop in to roost, they roosted here last year, and over 100 were using the laurel bushes to spend the night in. The Linnets fly out at dawn and go to feed elsewhere, as none are seen around my patch in winter away from their roost

No photo's today - just too dark and dull :-(

Linnets again! Keep rubbing salt in the wound Warren, what with those and Kingfishers... :)

The high winds have been awful here all night and all day!

Pretty quiet on the Pittswood patch then Warren. If it carries on I might even catch you up this month. Not that I would wish that on you of course...

The Linnets were great Warren, as far as it goes here was a bad day as well, no pictures. But, I put in some that were a bit outdated.
