Tuesday 4 September 2012

Dense fog made it impossible to see anything on the way into work this morning, but my walk home did provide me with a view of two GREY WAGTAILS at the College Grounds. By mid morning the fog had dispersed and the day turned into a hot a sunny one, unfortunately not conducive for finding the birdlife once I got out this afternoon. I walked the Tree Nursery, Pub Field and Migrant Alley, then scanned the Greenhouse Grounds, but little of note was seen. Summer species were limited to the SWALLOWS over Migrant Alley, and a few passage HOUSE MARTINS high up, just one WHITETHROAT, and two CHIFFCHAFFS were at the Greenhouse Grounds.

Watching the sky from my seat at Migrant Alley, I saw the usual 3 Raptor species, those being BUZZARD, SPARROWHAWK and KESTREL, with a fly past of PIED WAGTAIL and GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER - a very dull affair today!

EDIT: just as I posted this, a flock of CANADA GEESE (55) with the BARNACLE GOOSE (56) just flew over my house, a couple of ticks for the month  :-)

Once again, my camera stayed firmly across my shoulder today, so the photo's are of my garden birds, I took these yesterday evening  :-)

Hi Warren,
These photos are wonderful. The detail is fantastic. I've been away from the blogosphere almost all summer, so I have a lot of catching up to do. Did you get a new camera? I love the feather detail on the immature Dunnock.

It has been a nuthatch kind of time for me as well on my hikes. I like them very much. I did the impossible this weekend Warren on the Chuparosa Challenge. I have so much coming up on all of it. But like your advice on the owls.....you'll find them eventually:) Well I did:) You'll see:)
