Pittswood Birds

An extremely uneventful walk around the Greenhouse Grounds, Migrant Alley, and the Tree Nursery was had this afternoon, just a few of the regular local resident bird species were seen, as well as some of the patch summer migrants, these included a family of both BLACKCAPS and WHITETHROATS that were mixing together in the Greenhouse Grounds, as well as a CHIFFCHAFF that called constantly, a WREN was nearby, taking food to another brood of fledged nestlings.

A circuit of Migrant Alley produced a small flock of a dozen or so GOLDFINCH feeding on thistle heads, and 13 LINNETS feeding on one of the paddocks, a GREEN WOODPECKER plus several KESTREL sightings were about it for here. During the two hours I was out, a steady stream of HERRING GULLS flew over, visiting a newly harrowed field just off my patch. The local SWALLOWS were whizzing low around the Tree Nursery, and 4 SWIFTS were seen high up, another Whitethroat was present, two STOCK DOVES flew up from the tall vegetation, but apart from a few ROBINS, Wrens, BLACKBIRDS and DUNNOCKS, it was all very quiet.

Another visit this evening will have to be made!
