Friday 4 June 2010

As yesterday, it was a superb sunny morning, with blue skies and a light breeze, and I was anticipating another big list of bird species, however things are never the same two days running on my patch, and things never quite lived up to yesterday morning. Having said that, I did have a nice surprise, just minutes from leaving the house, and in the midst of scribbling down the initial rush of bird species, I caught sight of a bird flying low overhead, heading over the Greenhouse Complex, it was a COMMON TERN (94, 58). This is the first one recorded on my patch since August 2008.

One step nearer to my target of 100 species for this year! After that highlight, I was left with trying to find some of the more usual species that are on my patch, but today there were some glaring omissions, such as Jay, Pheasant, and Cuckoo, the latter I was expecting to go quiet any day now and will be gone altogether by late June, I might just find one of the Juveniles later in July that get left behind, but it's not often that happens.

One bird turned up this morning that wasn't found on yesterdays mega haul, was a NUTHATCH, one was feeding in a large Oak on the edge of the Wet Woods. By the end of the visit I had tallied up 46 species, 9 species down on yesterday, actually 10 species, as I went for a short walk along Ashes Lane and round the Tree Nuersery yesterday evening and managed to add HOBBY (57) to the months list.

The only photograph I took today was of this Beautiful Demoiselle, I barely got the chance to point the camera at much else, some days are just like that!

Well done with the C Tern Warren. Also nice shot of the beautiful Demoiselle. Not a species we get at New Hythe

Another one saying well done with the Common Tern, Warren.

Two more species for the ton. Wish you well with them.

Warren. You told me I would have to wait for the autumn to get any more year ticks at New Hythe so it's hardly fair that you are still getting them now is it! Nice BD shot.

94 already, that's great! And you've got half a year to get the other six, I think you'll do it.
