The weather curtailed this afternoons patch walk to just a half hours stroll round the fields and paddocks of Migrant Alley, the wind blew, dark clouds rolled in and rain started to fall - all this, and just 11 days from mid-summers day!

The only sightings of note were some GULLS going over, 3 species, LESSER BLACK BACKED, HERRING and BLACK HEADED, also the local KESTREL braving the elements to get a meal.

Once back home there was nothing left to do but watch the garden feeders, quite a few visitors come in to use the facilities, 17 species in all. The undoubted highlight was the male BULLFINCH, not a regular visitor at all to my garden, but having seen the female in the garden the other day, I suspect they have hungry fledglings to feed. A pair of JAYS were collecting peanuts from the floor, they are scarce visitors to my garden as well.

Anyway, here some photo's of some of the birds that visited this afternoon, but be warned they are pretty bad pics - it was very gloomy out there :-)

Hi Warren.
Nice to see someone's garden is still full of birds.
To have a pair of Jay's in your garden is great, plus a male Bullfinch.
Your photo's are pretty good, well I think so anyway.
Hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Aren't those Bullfinches so beautiful. You are so lucky to have them visiting. I wish the ones in my area would visit my feeders. Lovely to see Jays visiting your garden as well.

Your opening sentence echoed my own post today but the rest of your post was as good a read as ever.

Keep up the good work Warren.

You did well, Warren. It was one of those days here, where it never got light.

Lovely to see the Bullfinch, only saw one last year after not seeing one for years but it was in my garden :)...briefly! Not seen a Jay for some years either but have heard them, not in the garden though.

Hope the weather is better than expected.
