I didn't get round my patch this afternoon as I had an eye appointment to keep. Some might say I needed them tested after the birds I've be seeing this year!

I had an hour to kill, so I sat out in the garden and watched what would come down to the soaked bread I threw on the lawn, within minutes JACKDAW and MAGPIE were taking away huge beakfulls, a BLACKBIRD took modest amounts and a ROBIN even less. The highlight for me was watching the STARLING families come crashing in, making their raucous squawking, it looks a better breeding year for them this year.

I've got some days off next week, as well as the bank holiday Mon. So i'll have five full morning walks to wring out any passing birds that stray onto my patch.

Below are some pics of the birds I recorded in the garden

Juv. Starling above, and with adult below

Jackdaw below
and lastly the Male Blackbird

Hi Warren,
I hope that your eyes are doing ok. It is crazy the life we can observed in park and garden when we LOOK!
Have a nice week-end!

We seem to have been invaded by Starling families and your description of 'crashing in' and 'raucous squawking' is spot on. I put one of those square fat cakes out yesterday and within two hours it was virtually gone!

Those are all lovely photos Warren, we don't get Jackdaws in the garden and I haven't seen so much of the Magpie as I did last year.

I hope the eye appointment went well and that you enjoy your time off next week and see lots of birds to tell us about.

Hi Warren.
Nice picture of the Jackdaw. I think their a attractive bird.
Now that you have new improved eyesight, god knows what species you will be seeing. Watch this space huh?
Have an enjoyable break Warren.

The starling families seem to be invading everywhere at the moment; it's a case of hear them before you see them at times!

Sounds as though you're going to enjoy your few days off; look forward to hearing all about them Warren.

There are tons of juv. Starlings in my neighborhood and their crying drives me NUTS. And my dog too...she has been known to bark at them! Ha ha! Love you photos!
